The name of this organization is the Feminist Geographies Specialty Group (FGSG), formerly known as the Specialty Group on Geographic Perspectives on Women (GPOW). It is a recognized specialty group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG).

FGSG is dedicated to advancing feminist geographies. Historically, the group (formerly GPOW) was created to focus on encouraging geographical research related to women and women’s experiences in the discipline. Building on that history, we are dedicated to creating space to critically examine how gender and patriarchy and a myriad other intersecting forms of social power informed by race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, disability and heteronormativity (among others) are actualized in and through space. We also strive to advance feminist research methods and professional practices towards understanding and addressing these power imbalances in the discipline of Geography.
